Howdy,
Thanks Roland for the corrections on my explanation of Welsh. I was
the
slow learner of the group...guess I had better stick to Italian...it is
easier, regardless.
Teachers are always the toughest students... :-)) Welsh is a wonderful
language but it's definitely not an easy language. I'm sure your Italian is
better than my Welsh. A local college used to teach Welsh but they no longer
do. I have to rely on books until I can find an actual Welsh teacher. There
is a good explanation of the Welsh alphabet and its sounds online here:
http://www.cs.brown.edu/fun/welsh/Lesson01.html
I did forget to mention: Evan is EE fawn. (again,
there is no F in the Welsh,
Well actually there is. There is no V in the Welsh alphabet. There is both
F (as in Frongoch) and FF in the Welsh alphabet. The single F is pronounced
like the English V and the FF is the same sound as the English F. So both
the English V and F sounds appear in the Welsh language but the actual
letter V does not. The sounds for the English V and F are so similar that I
suppose the Welsh saw no reason to have both. The V in Evans and other such
words appears to be borrowed from the English, as the Welsh will sometimes
do. Techically though, V is not part of the Welsh alphabet. I'm sorry and,
yes, I know I'm a fussbudget so please forgive me.
AND, BTW, you remember that I said not to believe everything our
travelers
write! Thanks for the implications, Roland! <G>
What? Me? All I said was "No comment". Must be a guilty conscience at work
somewhere. :-))
You'll have to fill
everyone in on Unc's report on your behavior and vice-versa! <VBG>
(Roland's great-uncle had some wonderful lines and any minor mistake was
"going on the report.")
Yes, I'm still waiting for the results of that report. Every time I made a
wrong turn and had to "go back on myself" I got a demerit. I think Unc
probably ran out of ink writing demerits when we were near Abergavenny. We
were looking for a Baptist church from the early 1700's hundreds that
related to our Morris ancestors. We got directions from five different
people before we actually found the place. Each one brought us a bit closer
but only the last set of directions was completely accurate. What an
nightmare that was! But in the end it was worth the effort.
areas....AND, Roland has too many of Priscilla and I eating!
Yes, and Roland plans to finance his next trip to Wales with the sale of
those pictures! I have both still pictures and video so put your orders in
now! :-))
Yes, Roland, we did get to Strata Florida. Did you read in the
booklet
that the Debeubarth prpinces were buried in the section called the Chapter
House, so there are no markers in that spot.
Yep, I sure did. That was a great place. I have pictures and video there as
well.
