Emily,
The original Parish Registers (approx 1650 -1837) for Births , Marriages and Deaths for
the Bala area are all in the Dolgellau archives . These include - Llanuwchllyn, Llanycil ,
Llanfor, Llandderfel, Llangower , Llandrillo and Llangar..
I have a book which lists all the Welsh parishes and gives you the current location of all
the original registers. If you require information from this book let me know.
Are you aware of the Parish Registers which have been transcribed by the Clwyd Family
History Society ? If you go to
www.clwydfhs.org.uk you will find details of how these can
be purchased at a very reasonable cost , all printed in A4 booklets and some on microfiche
. I have the transcriptions of all the above named parishes around Bala , including Cerrig
y Druidion and Ysbytty Ifan. - if you want me to look up any names for you then please let
me know.
Like all transcriptions ,mistakes can be made and names omitted but these booklets can
save you days of time trying to decypher entries in the original documents and the indexes
are also invaluable - but as you well know , it may be necessary to do your final
verification in the original registers.
Referring back to your e-mail 13 March 2007 20:34 and the following paragraph -
Founders by Glenn, vol. 2, p. vii: "Jane, wife of Robert Cadwalader, was the dau of
John Evan, of Ucheldre, near Bala, son of Evan Robert Lewis. She was therefore, a sister
of William John of Gwynedd, Griffith John of Merion, and Robert John (or Jones) of
Abington."
Is this the full transcription of the entry on this page of the book which refers to the
John ap Evan's family ? I presume that Abington is a county Pennsylvania like Gwynedd
and Merion.
Elfed.
