Janet....and all,
I formerly stated: "They (Carys & Dewi) knew that Sarah Evans was the
ancestor of Abraham Lincoln (At least some people believe so, although this
is currently disputed), but Carys thought her father was Evan ab Evan. I
explained that is was Cadwallader ab Evan, however."
One source of this:
_Americans of Royal Descent_ by Browning, p. H of the Corrigenda cites
Howard M. Jenkins of Philadelphia in the "Boston Transcript" 21 Feb 1906 as
Pres Lincoln desc. from Evan ab Evan Robert Lewis of Fron Goch farm via son
Cadwalader Evans's dau Sarah who m. John Hank.
Sarah, dau of Cadwalader used the surname Evans.
We (you and I) desc. from Sarah v. Evan ab Evan. This Sarah is the aunt of
Sarah v. Cadwalader.
Again, this line has been recently disputed. Some say Nancy Hank was
illegitimate. I"I've not researched the line to know.
If you don't know who Jenkins is, he is the man who wrote the Historical
Collections Related to Gwynedd" and is said to have seen the 1730 manuscript
written on the desc. of Evan ab Evan by his American desc. and based on
those brought to America in 1698. I believe I've read that this manuscript
is housed at the Historical Society in Philadelphia, but don't quote me on
that.
Perhaps researching more than your direct line will help...but may only
confuse as so many names are the same.
Regarding the spelling of Cadwalader --Most of the time it is with one L,
but that doesn't mean always. Nor does it mean a different person. There
are also many abbreviations for the name as there are for most Welsh names.
Cadr, Cadwladr are only two. Had I noticed I would have used one L as that
is the most common. Thanks for noticing.
Let me know if you...or anyone have more questions.
BTW, I "think" I have my scanner fixed. The software is new and will take
time to completely figure out, so you may not get perfectly cropped copies,
etc. I am not a photographer.
Who wants copies of photos related to the "tales" I'm spinning of the trip?
AND, before I send any, Roland, Priscilla, Gary, Sandy and Unc...I need to
know if you care that I send some of you to the others. You can let me know
privately. I cannot send them via the list and many of you may not be
interested anyway. Gary & Roland, can I leave you to get permission from
Sandy and Unc? Thanks.

Emily, you've taken me aback. Everywhere, I've seen Sarah
Evan's Father
to be Evan ab Evan, sometimes shown as Evan Lloyd ab Evan, but never
Cadwalader ab Evan. You're really taking my head for a spin. I can't
just
accept
this without proof.
As to the Cadwalader name, when it did come up at a latter point, it was
usually spelled with one 'l'. One time it was even spelled as
'Cadwaladr.'
