Dear all,
Here are the answers I was given by my nephew:
1. In the 1960 T V movie Siwan, Welsh stage and screen character
actor Cliffotd Evans starred as the betrayed monarch. ( He also suggested
looking in PBS cataloges for the film. I don't have one at hand now, but it
is a suggestion. He also thought we might find it in a store in Wales when
we go.)
2. Indeed Peter O'Toole has the distinction of having played the
role of Henry II twice on screen. First, in the highly acclaimed 1964 motion
picture BECKET with Richard Burton and four years later in the Academy Award
winning film THE LION IN WINTER. (I'm sure both of these can be rented)
3. Surprising as it may seem Michael Redgrave was never honored with
a film portrayal of Richard the Lionhearted. Some nine different movies on
England's noble ruler have been made from the mid-1920s to the 1990s. One of
the earliest actors to play him was Noah Beery and the last one was Sean
Connery (in a cameo stlye appearance in ROBINHOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES with
Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman). I have very mixed feelings about Richard.
He was always romanticized as such a hero, but I believe not much of a King.
I guess this is timely, the Academy Awards being made last nite.
