Beth and all....
Thanks for the Foulke site --VERY interesting.
For those you may wish to know, Coed y Foel (literally --according to my books
-- "trees of the baretopped hill." An enigma!) is VERY near Fron Goch. The
problem is that I see TWO, with an additional word on each.
I find Coed-y-foel-isaf between Bala and Frongoch (the town) on a road (B4501)
just east and paralleling A4212 which rund from Bala to Frongoch. It appears
to be about 2 1/2 miles north of Bala. On the same road and even closer
(maybe
a mile) form Bala is Rhiwlas, antoher tiny place.
Coed-y-foel-uchaf is on the same road a bit north of Frongoch.
From the site Beth shared with us, I would say Coed-y-foel is the
first one
mentioned, for certain.
Obviously there are a few scalped hillsides with trees around! <G>
Llanderfel, mentioned under XV. THOMAS at the site is located east of Bala and
sourth of the highway A494. It is a town on route B4401...about 6 miles from
Bala, if I recall correctly. It is near the old Mill B & B where I stayed.
I'm not able to spot a Coed y foel in this area.
Thanks Beth --It's very interesting to read of Edward's live and his home in
Wales --probably not unlike that of our ancestors.
Take care,
Emily
