Hi Cousins,
I just wanted to point out a few connections between our ancestors and
Edward Foulke. First of all, Edward Foulke must have been at least distantly
related to our grandfathers (John ap Evan and Evan ap Evan) since Evan Robert
Lewis' wife (our grandmother) Jane Cadwalder was "probably the heiress of
Fron Goch and descended from Rhirid Flaidd, Lord of Penllyn".(This is from
page 2 of "The Griffith Descendants of Evan Robert Lewis" by Priscilla
Hopping Griffith as well as from other sources I have seen. Edward Foulke's
pedigree (as many of you have seen) claims he too descends from Rhirid
Flaidd, so that would make our grandfathers related to Edward Foulke.
Another connection, and once again the source is Priscilla's book (page
6):
"7-JOHN GRIFFITH (3-Griffith John, John ap Evan, Evan Robert Lewis). John
Griffith married Grace Foulke March 6, 1707 at Gwynedd Meeting, Gwynedd,
Pennsylvania. Grace Foulke came with her family from Wales in 1698. They
settled on a tract of land purchased by Edward Foulke, her father. It
consisted of 700 acres, 16 miles from Philadelphia, in the township of
Gwynedd, or North Wales. They came from a farm called Coed-y-foel, Rhiwlas,
Wales. At the time of their coming they were not Friends. Edward Foulke's
grave is marked in Gwynedd Meeting cemetary."
Four children are listed below and the data source is the "Gwynedd" book
by Howard M. Jenkins.
