Dear Ms McMakin,
I have been asked to reply to your enquiry regarding the Rhiwlas estate papers.
Many of the muniments of the Price family of Rhiwlas, including the Rhiwlas Estate papers,
were deposited in the National Library in 1949, and are held in this Department. The
Annual Report for 1948-49 gives no more than a brief description of the collection, and
the working list has been replaced by a more detailed schedule, which is available both in
our Departmental Catalogue Room and on the internet. To search it, go to
www.llgc.org.uk,
select 'Department of Manuscripts and Records' / 'Search our Holdings' /
'Search the Databases', and follow the instructions to search Schedules.
Further papers of the estate are held at the Meirionnydd Record Office, Cae Penarlag,
Dolgellau, Meirionnydd LL40 2YB. The Area Archivist is Mr. Einion Wyn Thomas, and the
website is
www.llgc.org.uk/cac/cac0030.htm.
I have been unable to find any reference to Rhiwlas papers at the Department of
Manuscripts and Archives of the University of Wales, Bangor, but there may be some there.
The website is
www.llgc.org.uk/cac/cac0024.htm.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. David Moore
