Greetings,
Yesterday Keith (Roland's connection in Bala) sent Roland and I an email
that he had heard from Ifor Owen who is willing to meet us. You may
remember that I was told by the current residents of Fron Goch that Ifor
was the man I should find as he would know all about the Quaker movement in
Northern Wales. What a celebration to meet him!
To date, we have these two contacts plus Roy in Dolgellau where the parish
records are located. Roy is related to all of us distantly...years before
Evan ap Robert ap Lewis, but on this line. His wife is American and they
will be coming to PA this June where she will research the Quaker records.
He plans to visit his dau in Canada, as well.
Also, Keith has put me in contact with Mr. Price who is the current owner
of Rhiwlas and the Estate which encompases Fron Goch. He will be out of
town until July 29 at an Agricultural Show, but I hope to see him after that.
These men have and will help make our trip a success!
We have yet to discover, however, the Bala area visitors (decendants from
our Evans line) who came to the St. David's Day festivities in PA this last
year. I also recall someone mentioning there are some living Pugh
relatives in the Bala area, but we haven't caught up with them as yet,
either. Then there is Roland Evans of CNN....
Is anyone working on locating these people? Don't give up! We need them.
Without checking old email, I don't recall if it was Beth or someone else
who mentioned the Bala contingency and Roland Evans. Anyone following up
on these?
Thanks again for those of you who are checking the list of films that
Roland suggested. Any help is greatly appreciated. Please post what you
find....even info on related lines.
Priscilla, we need to get our meeting location finalized as I need to be
getting a car and an evening's lodging as we will be a day difference in
arriving in Wales. Let me know how far you wish to take the train and your
route, so I might pick you up. If you can choose a town or two, I can find
out from Keith or Roy how long it would take me to get from one place to
another.
Could we also get estimated times of arrivals at Fron Goch, so some of us
aren't running around the countryside and can be there to greet you....or
at least leave a note as to what pub we are supporting!
I checked with Thomas Cook agency and the pound is back up...nothing really
different than last summer, at least. I hope the state you are in (it does
vary from state to state here) is cheaper and that you have obtained enough
to get you through the first day. Don't expect to use a credit card for B
& Bs, although many may take it. If you are in a large enough town, shop
at different banks for your exchange rate....they do vary.
Let us hear how everyone is doing.....
Best wishes,
Emily
