Greetings long, lost cousins! <G>
Hopefully your silence has meant you are enjoying the Holidays and have had
some time to dig into the libraries and courthouses....
I will be photocopying records I gleaned from Wales this week. When I
asked who wanted a copy of the large record from the Rhiwlas Estate only
Janet (and I konw I owe you Roland) responded. This is the last call, if
anyone is interested.
I've not had time to finish my version of the trip ....maybe it is too late
to do so. I have been conversing with Roy in Dogellau who seems to be
quite an expert on the area and Welsh researching. He informs me that
reseasrching the line of Evan ap Robert ap Lewis may not produce more than
we already know as the records during this time are more than scarce. He
defers to Bartrum's books and the addition/corrections of them, stating
that the era he covers (pre 1400) appears to have more info and his sources
are probably the best.
Roy is talking to one of the directors at NWL as we speak regarding getting
Bartrum's works on CD. He and I discussed this when I visited. It may
entail a campaign to gather enough interest to prove to the NWL that it is
worth the investment. Roy recently ran into a guy on the net who is
selling a CD which includes a lot of Bartrum's work. This guy claims what
he has on Bartrum is not under copyright. Roy is checking that out as he
knows Bartrum personally and is doing some work that will be accepted in
Bartrum's next series. I ask that you not purchase this (if you find it)
until Roy gets a read on (1.) how accurate it is and (2.) if there is no
copyright. Neither he nor I would like to see the possiblity of getting a
CD produced on Bartrum's series be in jeopardy. It would be so valuable to
all of us.
Roy and I have discussed that if the NWL can't afford to get it on CD, then
maybe they will allow another company to do so..such as, Geneal. Pub. Co, etc.
I have tried to purchase Bartrum's works, but the NWL doesn't have a full
set to sell and will only sell the additions and corrections. I did
purchase Bartrum's _A Welsh Calssical Dictionary: People in History and
Legend up to about AD 1000_. It is availble via the NWL and I believe I
posted this price and addr. or email. It is basically a Who's Who of that
time.
Let me know if anyonen needs "look ups" on it. If it is too long to type,
you can send SASE to cover photocopy, etc.
Hope to hear from some of you .....
Best wishes for the Holidays and the New Year,
Emily
