Thanks to those who replied to the Nanney question. I passed the info on
and hopefully she can find the book you mentioned. Let me know if anyone
does find it...I'd love to see a copy.
We have yet to hear from one of our new people (HINT! HINT!). I wish to
thank those who did post. It appears all of us have been busy with other
lines lately....or our other LIFE (if, indeed, we admit to having one! <G>)
I've spent a little time in the bookstores here, dragging away as much as I
can find on Welsh history, etc. in order to gather more background while I
bide my time between now and my hopeful return this summer. <G> I think
our best bet would be the Rhiwlas papers, at this point....and any parish
records, if they exist that far back. I'd also love to know when the town
of Fron Goch was official established. I didn't find it on a 1601 map I
have, but did find Ysptty Ivan. That's another place to visit, for sure.
If my memory serves me, it is a tiny town on the east side of the Conwy
River. And wouldn't you love to know which 60,000 acres the Rhiwlas Estate
claimed in Wales...sure sounds like a huge part of the North, doesn't it?
I did find a site and hope to order a few books from the UK (hate to think
about the price, but even to find them while there won't be as easy...I've
already purchased tons while there last. year)
Beth, did you ever find out what library has the Evans book? I'd love to
write them directly.
BTW, does anyone plan a trip to Salt Lake or the Philadelphia area to
gather material?
Best wishes,
Emily
Hi Emily,
Thanks for the most interesting mail on the Nanney & Yancey surnames &
possible connection to Frongoch. It seems to me as well, that there's a
connection. I've run into the Nanney name a fair amount lately though I
have to admit to not being able to quote exactly where as I didn't quite
see the connection beyond being @ the same places @ the same times. I
will keep my eyes & ears open more now with the information you sent.
It seems as though lately I've been reading things that turned into dead
leads, but that's part of the deal I guess.
Thanks. Beth.
Hi Everyone!
I ran into the Nanney surname when I perused Lewis Dwnn's "Heraldic
Visit to Wales and Part of the Marches", looking for ancestors of our Evan
Robert Lewis of Fron Goch. If I remember correctly, Evan Robert Lewis was
related to the Nanneys--the connection was a common grandparent a few
generations back. If anyone were to get their hands on "Heraldic Visit", I'm
sure the connection could be made.
Thanks for all of the information.
Susan
