Under Yahoo cons, I would include this:
* When you register we ask for information such as your name, email
address, birth date, gender, ZIP code, occupation, industry, and
personal interests. For some financial products and services we
might also ask for your address, Social Security number, and
information about your assets. When you register with Yahoo! and
sign in to our services, you are not anonymous to us.
* Yahoo! collects information about your transactions with us and
with some of our business partners, including information about
your use of financial products and services that we offer.
* Yahoo! automatically receives and records information from your
computer and browser, including your IP address

Also, it is free to dump in ads:
"You also understand and agree that the Service may include
advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for Yahoo! to
provide the Service. You also understand and agree that the Service may
include certain communications from Yahoo!, such as service
announcements, administrative messages and the Yahoo! Newsletter, and
that these communications are considered part of Yahoo! membership and
you will not be able to opt out of receiving them."

Those who think RootsWeb is dangerous should get cardiac arrest from

Hi Folks,
It's a suggestion -- open for discussion.
In view of the recent changes at TGN/Ancestry/RootsWeb, I would like
to propose that we move the official FloridaGenWeb mailing list off
of RootsWeb. FLGEN(a)rootsweb.com is currently our "official" mailing
list. Since our GenWeb site has left RootsWeb, our list should too,
in my opinion.
I can think of several options, and maybe you can suggest some
more. I'm going to list them, along with what I think are pros and cons.
First the two we already have are flgenhistonline and
http://groups.google.com/group/flgenweb.
flgenhisonline
Pros: Already set up with many members
Cons: No archive
Uses bandwidth that could go to the project (I think -- Laverne can elaborate)
Google Group: flgenweb
Pros: Already set up with many members
Archive
Mail Receipt Options can be controlled by the recipient
Has multiple managers
Can have multiple owners -- this ensures the list will not die
Secure sign in (almost too secure until you are used to it)
Once signed up, it is no different than this list -- simply email
Members can send attachments
Managers can add files and pages -- this can be extended to members if needed
Cons: Some people may not like Google
Members can send attachments
Yahoo
I don't know enough about yahoo groups to comment fairly. Would
someone else please help.
Cons: Group dies if the listowner dies, or so I'm told.
Other suggestions?
Rel@ively,
Patrice
