Hi List... There is much less online at the Alachua County Clerk of the
Court's Ancient Records site. The reason is Florida Supreme Court
Administrative Order No. AOSC03-49. All the records are still available
at the courthouse, but we can not have them online. I believe that new
rules will continue to erode our online access to these older records,
even though they have nothing in them that could lead to identity theft.
I would like to see a bill in the legislature to exempt records over 70
years old from all of these rules meant to limit access to modern records.
If you think that this would be a good idea, email, call or write your
Florida legislators and request that they introduce and support such a
bill. I have written to two that I thought might help...
Senator Rod Smith smith.rod.web(a)flsenate.gov
and
Representative Ed Jennings jennings.ed(a)myfloridahouse.com
Senator Rod Smith's office has answered my email and said Senator Smith
would be reviewing the idea of exempting records older than 70 years as
Historical records. At least they haven't said no. Additional emails or
letters may influence his decision. Any help in this endeavor would be
greatly appreciated. Senator Rod Smith's email address is
smith.rod.web(a)flsenate.gov
Thanks,
Jim
