I have tried several times to access and read the by-laws to no avail,
so I can't really comment on them. I am unclear as to what role the
elected body will play, except to provide general guidelines, which I
thought were already in place.
I understand there was a problem among the original USGenWeb people and
that some went off and incorporated for-profit. Are these procedures to
curb that kind of behavior or to otherwise establish the not-for-profit
status of USGenWeb or are they an attempt to establish more control over
the project?
My opinion: I am here to provide information, preferably actual
genealogical data, to anyone else looking for their ancestors in my
county. I personally want to focus on providing as much of that data as
I can. If representatives and by-laws can somehow help me do that, then
great. I think we would all be better served worrying about getting
real data online and less on creating a new bureaucracy.

Subject: Re: By-Laws & Elections
Hi Everyone... I'm not sure this is proper, but I am also a KyGenWeb CC
and the KYGEN-L list is full of comments on the upcoming election and
by-laws.
So here goes my opinion....
I think that as CCs, we make this project work. Why add a regional level
to the bureaucracy? The only thing that USGENWEB really needs to do is
set 'basic guidelines.' (USGENWEB really means the CCs and SCs and
special project coordinators). Each state needs to set their own
guidelines within those basic guidelines with the intent of putting
control in the hands of the CCs and SCs. The national body should only
be concerned with the state genwebs when there is a problem that can not
be solved locally and only then. And then they should be asked to help
out.
This is just my opinion, what is yours? I am open minded, if you belive
that we need top down policy enforcement, change my mind.
