I also received that same e-mail and here is what I sent him.
Dear Mr. Thompson
The counties I host, Citrus, Orange, Pasco, and Pinellas do not give "free"
or sell advertisments to for fee genealogy researchers. I personally feel
it is not in keeping with the USGenWeb and FLGenWeb policy of
"non-commercial and fully committed to free genealogy access for everyone."
While other areas may indeed provide this service as it is left up to the
individual county coordinator, I do not.
What I will do is this: I will place your name and contact information in
my private file and if anyone should enquire for a paid genealogy researcher
in your locality or specialties, I will then give them your contact
information.
Have you ever thought of volunteering to host or assist with the FLGenWeb?
With your qualifications I am sure you would be quite an asset to the
organization.
Sincerely;
Laverne Hammock Tornow

Subject: [FLGEN] Florida Genealogy (was Re: February checkin)
Deborah and Florida Admins,
I received the same email. I didn't want to look like I am endorsing him
(or anyone else), by linking to him on the GenWeb site. Instead he
inspired me to start a blog for Florida Genealogy. It is located at:
http://floridagenealogy.blogspot.com/
I plan to add all future requests of that nature to the blog and let the
public be the judge. I will also add links to Florida resources,
libraries, new URLs, conferences, seminars, workshops and other
announcements. I am not trying to duplicate other work. The main
objective is to allow researchers to rate the resources -- give them a
place for feedback.
If you know of upcoming events, unusual resources, new URLs, professional
genealogists or anything that might be helpful for Florida researchers I
invite you to forward them to me. The blog is open for comments from
registered users of Blogger, but comments from non-members will be
moderated so spam and abuse can be deleted.
If you would like to "join" the blog so you can post yourself, send an
email to florida.genealogy(a)gmail.com and I will send you an email
invitation to join. FYI, the invite will have a return address of
"Blogger Invites" <no-reply(a)blogger.com>.
Rel@ively,
Patrice
