Welcome Angela!
I am responding on list, since most of this information applies to
the Archives for all the counties in Florida
Gadsden County is one of the "updated" pages in the USGenWeb
Archives:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/fl/toc/gadsden.htm
Compare it to Franklin County and you will see the
difference:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/fl/toc/franklin.htm
The change goes deeper than just color. The column for Filename has
been eliminated on the new page and the link is now associated with
the Description. The Categories are now in individual tables with
summaries included for each category.
The four column layout is to facilitate use of the new upload forms
for Florida:
http://genrecords.org/flfiles/ Files added using the
forms are automatically added to the Archives. Hopefully the
process will eventually include updating the Table of Contents (TOC)
page for the County archives, but until that time I am making the TOC
changes manually.
Other changes to the page are minor.
I highly recommend signing up with Change Detection to monitor
changes to the TOC pages for your county, so you will know when files
have been added to the Archives . You may also want to include a
link to the upload forms:
http://genrecords.org/flfiles/
You can peruse the ftp archives for Florida
at:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/fl/ Everything in the ftp
archive should also be on the TOC page for the appropriate county.
Most of the files that are in a counties xmisc category will be
changed to history or another appropriate category. But that's a job
for another day and I will notify individual counties when those
archives links are changed. Don't worry -- it won't be immediate for
most of you. This is a long slow job and I am taking it a day at a
time (in between REAL LIFE, of course).
If you (or any other coordinator) have any questions, please don't
hesitate to contact me. Just not all at once, please. <grin>

Patrice

Hello all,
Gadsden County's GenWeb site is in transition. I have taken over
from Rhonda Smith, who, bless her heart, lives in Virginia, but has
been taking care of Gadsden County for several years. I asked her
if I could take it over, and she consented since she is the
coordinator for two other GenWeb sites.
I am a native of Gadsden County and I know the family names, the
roads, the cemeteries, and the history. I think I will love
coordinating this site. I have never created a web page before, so
it was a learning process, and Darrell Bell and Rhonda Smith have
been very patient with me while I first learned what to do, then
set about doing it. The Gadsden GenWeb site has over 100 pages in
it, and it has kept me burning the midnight oil the last two months
trying to get all that data re-formatted for my template.
I plan to upload the files on Monday. Any good tips on file
submission, please write to me personally. I have read the
instructions on the USGenWeb site for coordinators, but they really
did gloss over things, and I'm now more worried than before I read
the instructions.
I know my web page is not perfect--it needs a few more
navigational buttons and an index to the cemeteries that are in row
order--it's too hard to find someone that way, but it does preserve
the family relationships. I just hate searching for the name I
want through 400 other names not in alphabetical order. So I will
be making that easier for our researchers this next year.
Please check out the site in a week or so and give me some
feedback. I will appreciate any suggestions and also any good
links that researchers might find helpful.
Wish me luck on Monday!
