In 1991, the population of Dade County was nearly two million. Tourism and transportation
are among the major industries, along with light industry, construction and fishing. There
are twenty-five incorporated towns and cities in the county. The largest, at around
350,000 people, is the county seat, Miami.
In review, Dade County was officially organized from Monroe County February 4, 1836.
Some one hundred sixty one years later, November 13, 1997, Miami -Dade County has emerged.
As with any change in a political structure, the voters decided that increased name
recognition was worth the change.

why was Dade switched to Miami-Dade? Was this change
put to a vote? I lived for more than 30 years in

still Dade at this time.

OK
I'll list Dade with a "refer to Miami-Dade". Will
that work for you?
And for your enjoyment:
http://www.dadebattlefield.com/ We spent
an hour or so trying to find the battlefield years
ago. My beloved
even stopped and actually asked for directions. The
battlefield was
in the right place, but we weren't. When we finally
gave up and
decided to just go home -- it jumped up and was
right in front of
us. 'Twas a very interesting side trip.
