I think what started all the flap is that they cached pages, called it their
stuff and at first made it only available to paying customers.
I only suggested that they be linked up to the FL Tombstone Poject in an
effort to make sure that they would be indexed on the USGENWEB search
engine.
It is routine business practice in this day and age to acquire/sell lists.
Your bank sells your info, the government sells it, Federal State and Local,
you grocery store, if you have one of those cards they swipe for extra
savings on you purchase, colllects info on the types/brands of products you
purchase and sells it, you insurance company sells your info, you name it,
if they have personal info on you, they are selling it to others.
I can purchase a list of genealogy related sites, people who are interested
in genealogy from: AOL, MSN, ATT, or anyother internet access company or
hosting service. If it is online IT IS NO LONGER Private.
We have many persons in modern times say post WW2 to present whose chose
alternative burial arrangements, they have no marker in a cemetery for the
most part as many were scattered on the seas, over land or even sitting on
the mantlepiece in the front room Shouldn't their lives also be
commemorated by placing their names, birth and death on a list that is
easily found?
Just in my on family there are over 30 who have been cremated and their
remains scattered on the property they owned, I think a list of this type
should also include those whose death is certian but no body recovered, such
as a shipwreck or mine disaster.
On anoter note, roadside memorials at sites of deadly accidents. Not a good
idea especially those who erect "headstones to mark the spot as it were.
100 years from now who is going to know that there is no one buried there
that it is only a marker of the place of death. By the same token 100 years
from now, where will Suzie Q Public find burial info on great Uncle George
who was cremated and scattered over his farm?

How does this differ from USGENWEB?
We in Highlands County have indexed cemeteries with photos, (this is an
ongoing project).
We have placed them on the County genweb site, much more to go.
