Hi Laverne,
That was not the objection I had. I didn't like the fact that it was not
just an index as Cyndi's List has or google. They were putting my page on
their server and putting their banner and stuff on it without my permission in
their for a fee subscription site. That makes it stealing to me.
I have watched what has happened for years and that is why I was opposed to
adding the Cremains to the archives. At some point I knew they would use it
for fee and not FREE anymore. If my pages were not available to them, then
they could not sell them either on a CD or a fee subscription.
My info is designed for people to use in their private genealogy search, not
Corporations to use for profit.
It was said by someone on one of the lists, that the way it was to start
with, Ancestry got a click for anyone going to the index and another click for
going to my site on their server. With Google, they would get the initial
click to count in searching for sponsors for their site to show usage, and I
would get a click when it went to my personal site.
There is a big difference there. When they were in Ancestry and clicking
away- they not once were using my personal site, it was all on their server (the
Ancestry part- not Rootsweb). I don't have sponsors so at this point it
wasn't a problem for me but if I were to change the pages in the future, then
perhaps I would have some clickable things there.
Fran
