I have had a first settler page and a Slave index on the Hernando site
and the two Ga counties since I started hosting those Counties. Many
of the donars don't have a migration point, they just know their
families were in the counties before a certain date. But to use the
page, someone has to know that their ancestor was in that county.
A state migration page would be asset. So many people moved through
Florida to settle in other states, and researchers are just beginning
to realize how important Florida was a a migration route.
I looked at Jim's proposal and it is a good place to start. It can
always be fine tuned. But I don't think that changing the format will
stop the queries. Look at the Genconnect data boards, how many times
is their a query response attached to an obit? If the genconnect
guru's could close off the repsonse line to the migration board,
you'll avoid all the queries. Perhaps the state wide query board
needs to stronger empahsis?

PS I ordered from Salt Lake the microfilm for Florida state 1885
census for Hernando. So that is an option to buying the census
microfilm from the State Archives.
