Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
It is my understanding that the Internet Biographical Index is kaput. As
for pages being stolen if they are linked to FLGENWEB.
By sheer virtue of habitating cyberspace, ANY page on ANY server can be
harveated by a bot. I certianly did not mean to step on anyones toes by
suggesting we make it easier for people to find their deceased ancestors,
regardless of burial methods.

It seems that Ancextry.com has been running spider
links from the states archive pages to the links on
thier main web site. I will send out all the data
I've received on this situation later this afternoon.

In regards to Bonnie's concern, I'll be happy to post
to this list all the message traffic regarding this
matter.

What happened with stolen pages in the Archives? I haven't heard anything
about it, but come to think about it, that could happen anywhere at all on
the Internet. Even with some special coding that would discourage amateur
"thieves," with a little research, it could be defeated and "wala," stuff is
stolen. It is without a doubt one of the most violated feelings I have ever
had when it happened to me.

Hi Laverne,
I have serious reservations about placing things in the archives at this
point. I hope things will straighten out and I will feel comfortable having my
stuff stolen again. LOL
Please hold off placing my pages there.

Hi All,
In an effort to save the resting places of those not placed in a cemetery, I
have started a Cremains Page on the Lake Co USGenWeb Site. I will be adding
one to the Clay and Sumter sites as well.
_Lake Co., Florida Cremains_
(http://members.aol.com/franmuse/lakecem/cremains.htm) I encourage you to add one to yours also if you wish.
A suggestion was to have a national one. I have not the time or energy to
take on something of that magnitude. A site was offered but the material
would belong to that site. I felt that the original purpose was to place
information locally on our pages so I said if anyone wants to do it I think it would
be wonderful. But for me I will put it on my local site. I suggested
sending the info to places where the person had lived, not just to one place.
Happy Cooler Weather,
Fran
