Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

It's a pleasure to have your comments, I've been following all that have been
posted from everyone. My main point is that seems inpractical to have a
election where were are voting for leadership and by-laws/guidelines on the
same ballot. That's the impresion I am perceiving, please coorect me if I'm
wrong. I feel that we could elect the leadership to continue the operation of
the USGENWEB Project and hold the by-laws as they as interim by-laws. Once the
election is over, then the new regime could then call for a rules committe to
be formed and then the by-laws could be given the fullest attention they need.
Whether the standard ruling be 2/3, 3/4 or unanimous; it have come from the
desires of the full membership set forth these standards of parliamentary
procedures. As I have put to others, I'm a Genealogist Foremost, a State
Coordinator and then a county coordinator in that order.
What I have expressed is my own personal feelings. However, I remain
supportive to the the membership as a whole in their desires to support the
goals of the USGENWEB Project.
Sincerely,
Darrel R. Bell

Hi Everyone... I'm not sure this is proper, but I am also a KyGenWeb CC
and the KYGEN-L list is full of comments on the upcoming election and
by-laws.
So here goes my opinion....
I think that as CCs, we make this project work. Why add a regional level
to the bureaucracy? The only thing that USGENWEB really needs to do is
set 'basic guidelines.' (USGENWEB really means the CCs and SCs and
special project coordinators). Each state needs to set their own
guidelines within those basic guidelines with the intent of putting
control in the hands of the CCs and SCs. The national body should only
be concerned with the state genwebs when there is a problem that can not
be solved locally and only then. And then they should be asked to help
out.
This is just my opinion, what is yours? I am open minded, if you belive
that we need top down policy enforcement, change my mind.

There's a general consensus among other State Coordinators that their
are some county coordinators are not fully aware of the the facts
concerning the upcoming USGenWeb Election. I'll not make this long
winded, but if their any of you that do have questions regarding the
Elections, feel free to ask. If I feel I cannot answer or address your
question, I will seek out a competent authority to assist in answering
your question(s).

For the past several weeks, I have sat a read each and every message pro
& con regarding the by-laws and the upcoming election. I've seen the
question raised regarding the non-profit status and the Parliamentary
procedures set forth by Robert's Rules of Order. The issues pro and con
each have their merits.
Being a member of two (2) incorporated non-profit corporations in the
state of Florida I know the ramifications of having order, especially in
holding elections and not having membership approved by-laws. For the
record I serve as the Registered Agent for one organization and Chairman
of the Advisory Council in the other.
We as State and County Coordinators of our respective State Projects are
subordinate to the parent Project, The USGenWeb Project. To cut the
chase, we are in need at this time to elect officials to direct this
project to carry out its prime objective that we are "Volunteers
dedicated to free online information". Let's get the task of electing
the future leadership and then once this is accomplished worry about the
by-laws. Basically the by-laws have no value unless they are voted on
and receive a 2/3 majority by the voting membership.
So lets get on the Nomination/Election Process and save our energies for
the by-laws afterward.
Respectfully submitted,
Darrel R. Bell

Dear fellow genealogists,
I firmly stand in the corner of Lori Bragg who has challenged us to
remember the REAL purpose of the USGENWEB and that is to assist other
genealogist in pursuit of THEIR research goals. I don't see that an
elaborate organizational structure is required as a means of acheiving that
purpose.
I am a Representative Agent of a Not-For-Profit corporation and I can tell
you that the amount of effort required to sustain that organization is not
trivial. Unfortunately, the incorporation approach is a necessary device
to protect our efforts. But, it must be as non-intrusive into the daily
affairs of the County Coordinators as possible. Otherwise, the CCs will
rebel and "flee" their volunteer jobs.
To those who want to structurally restrict the efforts, I can only say "Get
a Life." Let's protect ourselfs against the Idaho crowd and get on with
the business of doing what we VOLUNTEERED to do.

Just received information pertaining to the new By-Laws. They cannot be
uploaded on the server as of yet. However, I've requested a text copy
of them. Upon receipt I will retransmit to everyone.
How's that for service.
