Project Members,
To start with, I must paraphrase Jim's comment "What I was hoping to
place before you, is the fact that we the CCs are this project... Darrel
nor I or anyone else wants to be a dictator and start just enforcing
rules as if we were police, Judge and Jury all in one." This a strong
point of mine and the reason I'd like more involvement from the rest of
the Project Membership. However, I'm reluctant to try and push the
issue, for the time being.
Regarding Cathy's suggestion having a New CC page, I feel that the list
of instructions at rules.htm will be sufficient for this purpose. That's
with a little more information built into them. To include mandatory
placement of all required logos, the appropriate links (USGenWeb and
FLGenWeb, etc), ensure that the page is maintained in a timely manner
(to include all subordinate pages). Have them acknowledge the
requirement that there's a monthly check-in and if they don't comply
they will be subject to a written reprimand. This may sound harsh, but
I cannot think of an easier way of putting it.
There's two counties in particular, having the same CC, after numerous
messages; has finally placed the approved FLGenWeb on her query page.
However, she has made no effort to place the USGenWeb Logo on any of her
pages. Back in October, I indicated these problems in my message at the
beginning of the month regarding Roll Call. All I got was a derogatory
response.
"" One last note, their are a few that have never responded to
last months Roll Call. If I have the same coordinators not checking in
for this month, I will only notify you once. If there's no response, I
will deactivate your county web site link from the county page. If
after two weeks I've received no response, the county will be
reassigned. Unless there is extenuating circumstances, I'll accept no
excuses, my decision will be final. This includes those, to whom I'm
constantly reminding to make changes to their web sites. Changes are
but not limited proper USGW & FLGW logos, links. Last but not least if
you're going to mention the State Coordinator by name on your county
page, please spell my name correctly; otherwise just refer to "State
Coordinator".""
It is bothersome to receive quirks such as in the following excerpt; I
don't usually cut and paste or as the common term snip from email
messages. This an exception to the rule, the coordinator knew I was not
making reference to them, but they had to put a pug in..
""Your message was pretty heavy-handed, I suggest a more private
way of
handling the only? 67 counties we have. Volunteers may have read all
that stuff last month and said, "Shoot! what is this stuff!" Even
though I know you were not talking to me, I think you may wind up
volunteer short-handed due to hurt feelings. I have no vote, because I
do not know any of the candidates. The FLGenWeb is becoming very
political.""
Another subject to bring up is forwarding pertinent information. I have
always forwarded all information I felt was need to know and useful to
the Project Members. Stemming from the first resignation, I forwarded
some of the information I felt was need to know. As a result, there
were two CC's that threatened to resign, had it been on any other day;
I'd have probably told them good-bye. However, I did not and I will not
intimidate anyone to leave the Project.
I know and realize that we are all volunteers. However, within any
organizational structure there has to be some rule and order for the
organization to function. The adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it",
has no application here. I am responsible and accountable to each and
every County Coordinator to ensure the smooth operation of our Project.
So therefore, I'd expect the same responsibility and accountability from
each County Coordinator in return.
