To follow up on that idea. The LDS church went through in the 1960's and
microfilmed records in a lot of the counties. You could order the microfilm
from the local FHC and get in on permanent loan and sit there and transcrib
or make copies of the microflim pages at around $.25 a page and do the
transcriptions from those pages and then go back to the film to check the
ones that aren't as legible.

BTW... has anyone else thought of contacting the Clerk of
the Court of their County and offering to transcribe old
records? They just might be willing to send you copies to
transcribe in return for a copy of the transcription.
Worked for me. Well actually I just asked for a deal...
Copies are $1 a page. I have now received about 250 pages
of which I have transcribed about 120... I have turned in
transcriptions of about 100 pages.
