This is a general question and is not specific to Fermanagh.
I have obtained, through LDS, a document which includes births and baptisms
at St Mary's Church, Newtonbarry (COI) between 1799 and 1903. As expected it
gives the date, child's name, parents' names and occupation. It also
indicates that the date is the 'date of birth' except for those entries
marked with an asterisk, in which case it is the 'date of baptism'. Most of
the entries are not marked in this way.
Does this mean that the church register was used to record births, whether
or not the child was baptised?
