My John Dillon setteled in the US in 1849-50 and was a farmer, of meagar
means at first but eventually developed a prominent farm. Both he and his wife,
MARY WELSH were literate .
A tribute written to him by his son , JOHN J DILLON [owner and publisher of a
widely circulated farm newspaper THE RURAL NEW YORKER , ] stated that his
father left behind his legacy in Ireland and came to America to escape
oppression. My people are RC. It also states that his mother gave up her dowery. His
obituary states that his family on both sides were " prominent in the failed
revolution under Emmet". His father was John Dillon and his mother Mary Jand
