Wendy and Anne,
Thank you for your replies.
I think the name of the Sanatorium might be "Lake Saranae, NY" or
similar. But that is unconfirmed and is probably spelled "phonetically".
I found Peter McL Cruickshank aged 27 years in the 1920 Census at
"Freeport, Nassau, New York, United States Sheet Number and Letter: 16B
Household ID: 39 Line Number: 51" living with his brother John (Head)
37 and John's wife Elsie P, aged 37, with their 4 children.
Doris Harrington aged 24 years, is also one of the many Boarders in that
building which appears to be a Multi Story or Appartment House, as there
quite a few families and single people 'boarders' at that address.
Peter McL Cruickshank and Doris (nee Harrington) were the parents of two
children. Doris born c1922/3 and Peter born 8th or 9th February 1924, on
same night as his father, Peter McL Cruickshank died aged 32 years.
His widow Doris married Linus Curtis Fancher in 1927 and Linus and Doris
two other children, John and Paul Fancher. I'm told the two Cruickshank
children were either 'Adopted' by Linus C Fancher or else the they just
assumed 'Fancher' as their name. They were named Cruickshank in both the
1930 and 1940 Census.
His registered name in 1951 was Peter C Fancher when he got married in
I'll keep digging and see what my friends and Google can find.
Wendy Enjoy your holiday in the Hillsides of Wales.
