I went to Turkey from Canada and I shopped around half a day trying to get a
sim card that was not just for Turkish phones. Then I found that I did not
know how to unlock my phone, so could not use a sim card. I worried a lot
about big charges but then...
All the hotels let me connect to wi-fi. I just sent e-mails home and
everywhere else using my FREE wi-fi connections. I do not pay for e-mail on
my cell phone at home( after all I am SCOTS-Irish!). I had a charge for a
text or two that I sent. I put my phone in airplane mode when necessary.
Since I did not speak the language I asked one hotel to book another for me.
If you are over 50 or 60 years of age, any young hotel clerk or coffee shop
worker will gladly help you connect to wi-fi. They can phone ahead to
another hotel, too.
