Another touch of irony that you've hit on - my grandmother, Alice Cassidy, born and
raised in Paisley, had a sister who married a McKay. So with all the McHugh's that I
have in my family line, I also have McKay second, third etc cousins! And yes they are

The original gaelic spelling of McHugh is McAodh which is pronounced
McAy so McKay is also a derivative of McAodh, however I have enough
trouble finding the mysterious McHughs to ever start looking at McKays!
Also Hay and Hayes are part of the anglicization process.
