“They shall not grow old” is also doing the rounds in Australia (but it’s not being
advertised much at all) and as Linda says, it’s worth seeing.

While this is not exactly a Fermanagh topic, many listers observed the Centenary of the
WWI Armistice in November. If you have the opportunity, don't miss Peter Jackson's
documentary "They Shall Not Grow Old" which he crafted out of many hours of
original film footage and taped interviews with WWI veterans from the Imperial War Museum
archives. Instead of the "silent movie" style of old films, suddenly the men
look and "sound" alive. It truly is a remarkable achievement. Having done a lot
of research last year on my great-uncle John Irvine from Kesh, of the Royal Inniskilling
Fusiliers, I almost felt I was seeing him and his comrades. Jackson also explains how his
team made the
documentary.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7905466/?ref_=nv_sr_1
In the USA it has only been shown a few times - and only one day at a time - so it has
been hard to catch and you may need to hunt for future showings. Presently it's only
available on dvd in Europe & the UK altho I can't believe it won't be released
more widely.
