Hello Judy -- and original requesters:
To the best of my knowledge the Journals are NOT available on-line anywhere.
And similarly TTBOMK they have not yet been indexed by those marvellous
volunteers at State Records of New South Wales, therefore they will not be
on that site's free online indexes.
My memory -- and it may well be faulty -- is this:
The Immigration Deposit Journals themselves, are part of the microFILM
records, forming part of the NSW State Records (formerly Archives Office of
NSW), Genealogical Records Kit (as it used to be called) -- nowadays called
the Archives Resource Kit.
Here is a link to some information on the SRNSW web-site which mentions
As also shown on that website, the INDEXES to the Immigration Deposit
Journals, have been compiled by a private organisation called Pastkeys; and
are sold to libraries and individuals on MicroFICHE. They are a most
wonderful resource, as they are indexed by surname of the potential
Immigrants, as well as by the surname of the Depositor in Australia who was
applying to "sponsor" them. The information in these Indexes, help you to
go more quickly to the relevant Journals themselves.
AND from those Journal entries, one can then go to the microfilm reels for
the relevant SHIP of Arrival of each Immigrant.
That is, to the Immigration Lists and to the SEPARATE Shipping List. Each
of which contains slightly DIFFERENT information on each Immigrant.
Hoping that this might be helpful to listers in general with some oz
Regards: Ray in Oz.
