The O Bannon Family is an ancient Irish/Fermanagh family and some of their history may be
available.(I will check that out for you but need to get to a library)
I feel that their origins are near to Cavancarragh.Probably on the better grounds nearby.
Your lot are not the normal small farmer. You find ancient gold rings about 1770 and these
ancient gold rings are still in the family a hundred years later (with Bernard)
Willie will be from Cavancarragh no doubt.
Marriage between cousins while frowned on was very common amongst all the ancient families
(be they Norman, Scottish, Irish or the British Royal Family)
So your Bannon Bannon marriages are an indication of something.
Sometimes we do not notice the cousins marrying as they may have a maternal connection and
thus a different name.
So my next job for you is to work on the following.
In Panders Census 1659 (The Down Survey and Hearth Money Roll tax combined by S Pender in
there were seven O Banan Families in the following Parishes.
Drumully,Derrybrusk,Deryvullan,Magheracross and Ennismacsaint.
It is a big jump forwards but how many were in each of those parishes in the Tithes of
The concentration will tell where these original 7 families were located, and the seat of
the O Bannon family.
I do not know but I bet it will be around or near Cavancarragh in Derryvullan.
I look forward to your findings.
