My family actually had no "issues" with (X) him not being RC....except
the fact that my mother NEVER liked him and after the "divorce" it was
easier to go for the "annulment". Do NOT get me wrong...the whole process was
very hard and...how shall I say VERY invasive...BUT needless to say I did it
for "Mom"! lol
On the "other" hand...when my mother tried marrying my step father a few
years before I got married SHE was given a very hard time because he was
not Catholic...and so he converted for her. Mind you both my mother and step
father had each lost their partners of 30 or more years. They were a
widow and widower.
In ref to Geraldies question though....knowing how "strict" the RC
Church can be in ref to those issues ...I would tend to think perhaps (as
possibly stated before) that they were either married in William's church or a
civil ceremony. You don't state the years....and I would assume the further
back the harder it would've been to be married in any church because of
"issues" during certain years....just a thought.
Good luck! And perhaps someone with research experience in this area will
have a better answer!
