I have a letter from a Canadian relative that says my ancestors, John
and Eliza Oliver and baby George Fredrick, sailed from Fermanagh to
Canada, arriving in Halifax, NS, in August of 1859 (at which time George
would have been only 2 months old). Ancestry.com
lists 1862 as the
immigration date for George Fredrick, and this fits the time frame.
Does it seem likely that a family would have made such a perilous
journey with a newborn infant? Was Halifax a common port for families
to have arrived at from Fermanagh? Does anyone have any Halifax ship
information that might help me in my searches? Thanks.
