The "Dispensary" was where the Doctor took note of Births, and issued birth
Certs. with a twopenny orange stamp on it, which cost the price of the
stamp.as he was usually the local Registrar. There he also examined
patients, no appointment necessary, one just took note of who was in the
waiting area when one entered it and took your turn when the Doctor came to
the door and said "Next". He also Dispensed medicine, extracted troublesome
teeth, set broken bones in wooden splints, held in place with bandages, or
performed minor surgery.
That is what I have witnessed with my own eyes at Belcoo Dispensary.
