This is more or less what I have decided to do for Census information, I
think this touches on the beauty of FH, its versatility, there is no right
or wrong. It is also great to hear how other users organise and use the s/w,
I have changed the way I use FH several times due to postings here or
thorough the web site.

Census - I believe it is both an Event and a Source and I use them as both.
I think Events are those things in life that have a date attached - writing
of a Will, proving of a Will, having your name added to a Census sheet, a B,
M or D etc. In the same way as you I refer to them as a 'source' for a
calculated birth date in the absence of any other source but I replace it
with a 'proper' source i.e. a birth cert etc. when the latter is available.
I use what I call a 'formatted' note for census entries - I do not use the
Census event itself. Why not? - I have found this clutters up the event
screen too much and makes the chronological events of a family crowded. My
census note has a heading line called 'CENSUS:' followed by a single line
entries for each census thus:-
1881 Son, Age 20, Westham Street Pevensey, Pevensey, Ag Lab, Deaf 1901 Hd,
Age 31, High Street Pevensey, Pevensey, Ag Lab, Deaf and Dumb, Living with
This means that I can export the whole entry of one note to Excel etc. to
view the whole household together.
I then use a Source attached to the Note with the folio, page numbers etc.
Just my way of doing it!

Subject: [FHU] Miscellaneous questions / facility requests
I don't know if by splitting these questions I'd be spamming the
mailing list so...
- Why does set automatic source citation fail to add a source citation
if the entry is already there e.g. Reginald Hill's birth cert tells me
he was born in 14th Sept 1879, I knew from census's that he was born
in 1879, but when I entered the date after setting up his BC as the
source in set automatic source citation then no citation. Similarly I
knew his mother
Emma - I now find it is Emma Page - no source citation is added to
updated record. Am I being daft?
- Why is there a census attribute in events / attributes - a census
record is a source surely?
- I know I've asked before but is there any chance of a zoom in / out
on pictures please?
- When I'm selecting a source, I'm told the source's record number,
be hidden in favour of more of the source title?
