One further thing. Suppose you want to renumber all records, but you would
like certain individuals to be numbered 1 to 25 and the rest to be
automatically renumbered, say (makes the top 25 very easy to find if you
just click on the Record Id column). You can do this by using the Custom Id
field. This presupposes that you are not already using the Custom Id field
for something else.
What you do is this:
(1) (Optional but probably a good idea). Check that you are not already
using a Custom Id field for anything by writing a custom query that lists
records which have a non-NULL custom id (see User Manual etc if you don't
know how to create custom queries). Confirm that there aren't any. If
there are, you can use the same query to delete all existing values, if you
want to, by selecting them all (i.e. all cells in the Custom Id column) and
pressing the Delete key.
(2) Find the Record for the Individual that you want to have record Id 1,
and set their custom id to 1 (in the Details tab of the Property Dialog).
Repeat for each individual that you want to give a specific Id to,
incrementing the id you give them appropriately. You can do this for as
many or as few records as you like.
(3) Go to Tools > Work with Record Identifiers and select "Generate new
record ids by copying custom Id values". F.H. will use custom id values
where it can, and where they exist. It will only use the custom id if there
is one, and its a number, and using it won't result in record id
duplication. Otherwise it will just generate a new record id automatically.
So doing this will give you a defined set for the top few records, and a
nicely renumbered set for the rest.

You can renumber all the people in the tree using Tools/Work with Record
and selecting the default option renumber starting from 1.
