In fact, since only one file is being consulted, you don't really
index it. Just get a program that can search pdf files. One I have found
very good is InfoRapid (the free 'lite' version) at
, though you have to set it up to handle pdf
When you search for a word or phrase, InfoRapid displays a list of "hits"
with some context around them (but not, usually, page numbers). Simply
left-click on a likely one and you are taken via a hyperlink to the
place in the manual file, and can get the page number from there.
Right-click on the mouse, and you are back in the search results list.
This basic functionality is included in Acrobat reader v6 - if you upgrade
you do not need another program
