OK, it was not clear that you had committed to the FH V5 purchase, so please continue with
Both the "30 Day Free Trial" and the licensed FH V5 can be installed on both
But you may as well wait for the licensed FH V5 before installing on your old PC.

We shall be using Plugins, amongst other tools, to simplify the transfer process.
In the meantime, can you please become comfortable with copying your files (any files)
from PC to PC.
You could try using the Windows XP free "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard".
From your description, it is clear that you can safely delete the FH
V3 icon from your new PC desktop.
You misunderstand the support options with FH, which I summarise below.
for full details.
(1) Calico Pie Support
You can E-mail Calico Pie/Family Historian directly at support(a)family-historian.co.uk if
But you will only get replies during normal working hours.
(2) FHU Mailing List
Family Historian Users (FHU) Mailing List, that you are currently using, is NOT run
directly by Calico Pie.
I am NOT an employee of Calico Pie (as you seem to think), but another FH user, just like
This free service ONLY works via E-mail, but is available 24/7.
Family Historian User Group (FHUG) is another free online 24/7 service run by and for FH
It offers many, many more free facilities such as Forums, Downloads, and Knowledge Base,
than the FHU Mailing List.
Once you have FH V5 installed on both PC we can help you through adopting the Project

Transferring your Project and Settings from PC to PC should then be straightforward.
In the meantime please answer the following questions:
Do you have FH Multimedia Image files linked to your GEDCOM data?
Are they in Windows folders closely related the folder holding the GEDCOM file?
Have you customised FH Reports, Diagrams, Queries, etc?
I am away on holiday for a few days next week, so don't be surprised if you get no

Subject: Re: [FHU] V5 installing
I am getting more and more confused. But it is probably because I did not explain myself
clearly. On Fri 24 May, I bought online
from Calico Pie FH V5 and I do have a licence. But, whilst waiting for the package to
arrive, I have used the 30 Day Free facility
to install this on my new computer and have been using the project to accustom myself to
the very different features. I have not
tried to do anything about moving my files from the old computer, nor have I tried
installing V5 on my old computer as you
suggested. I have done this because you told me that V5 would make the whole process
vastly simplified. But it does not seem as if
it will be simplified at all! I am unwilling to ask the local shop to visit again, as I
have already spent more than I can afford on
buying the new version, etc.
When I click on the V3 icon on my new computer, I get V5 with my project, exactly the same
as when I click on V5, nothing else; ie.
Only the icon was transferred from my old computer.
If you tell me I need to join the online users Help(?) then I'll join it.
But I would have thought that as a licensed user of FH for more than 12 years, I should be
able to get help from Calico Pie before
having to join another body.
I am very grateful for the help and advice that you offer; but I am just bewildered by the
inflexibility of product, when it
I propose that when the V5 stuff arrives I install it on my old computer and then ask your
further advice. Or I will join the
organization you mentioned and get out of your hair!
Thanks, Mike. I know I'll get there in the end.
