Reg, take great care when reverting to FH V5.
The first thing you MUST do in FH V6 is change Tools > Preferences > File Load/Save
and tick 'Save in UTF-8 file format'.
Otherwise, FH V5 will NOT load your Gedcom file.
You need your V4-V5 Upgrade CD/Download and your V4 and V5 licence keys.
If any of those are missing then Email support as Jane suggests.
After installing V4-V5 Upgrade, you can download & install the latest free update to
When you open your FH V6 Project in the reinstalled FH V5 you can expect some error
This is due to the new Gedcom format for Place records and Fact Witnesses if you have used

Did you have an V5 upgrade originally? If so you need to install the V4-V5 upgrade
program and enter both your V4 and V5 licences.
I take it you missed the message on the Family Historian Free Trial page:
"If you already have an earlier version of Family Historian installed, please be sure
