As you are discovering, reversing the column order in Place fields has many
undesirable side effects.
There are better solutions.
You could have saved yourself hours by using the existing "Search and
Replace" plugin to alter the Place fields.
Calico Pie understands the problems of manipulating Place columns,
especially when there are more than three.
They already have plans to allow each column to be accessed separately,
which would solve your sorting problem.
In the mean time, I advise that you return to the standard order of Place
columns, and use another method for sorting.
This involves copying each Place column to a separate line in its associated
Then the =GetParagraph() function can be used in Queries, Diagrams, etc to
extract and sort any column.
The method to copy the Place columns to Note lines is to use a plugin that I
would happily write for you.
This topic has been discussed at length in the FHUG Forums.
I would recommend you join FHUG http://www.fhug.org.uk/
for free and it will
make further discussions, the download of the plugin, and other issues much
easier to progress.

Subject: Inverting "Places" order
Many thanks for your helpful reply on my problem with "village,
county, country" order.
Although I have written one or two very useful queries in FH5
for my study, I don't feel qualified to write plug-ins, so I set to and
manually reversed the sequence of each of the 220 places I currently have
and this took only two or three hours. While in the middle of doing it, I
thought about the issue you raised of possible future geo-plotting and more
importantly I realised that I have lost the very time saving feature of
auto-completion of place names as I type them in - or at least I will now
have to type in country and county every time as well as part of the village
name before getting auto completion.
The positive thing is that I can now get proper sorting by, for
example, place of baptism, place of marriage and place of burial in the
vital queries I use all the time.
Perhaps I should apply for a feature to be added to a future
release of FH to allow reversing of place names at will, but I am unsure of
how to go about this.
Thanks again and regards, John Bradburn.
