When I first started using FH many years ago I made the mistake of copying
the same jpeg numerous times to be attached to a number of different family
members typically when I was linking to a group photo. I now want to tidy
up my media so that I have one image linked to numerous family members.How
should I go about deleting the extra images while ensuring the links are
My second question relates to editing a jpg. A number of jpg's need
cropping. I have gone into media /double clicked image / opened editor
player with my Win 10 laptop / cropped and saved but unless I exit FH the
image the remains unchanged. Am I missing something? Once I re open FH
again the changes then show.

So you have multiple Media records all linked to copies of the same photo.
Before you start doing anything create a Project Full Backup.
In the Records Window on the Media tab identify two Media records to be
Select the first, then hold down Ctrl key while selecting the second.
Now use Edit > Merge/Compare Records and OK the who selected records.
In the Merge Records dialogue review each data entry:
Null Merge means the data in both records is the same.
Keep means that data will be kept.
Discard means that data will be discarded, such as one of the File links.
* Add * means the data will be retained, such as Link/Note links to
When happy click Merge and accept the subsequent dialogues.
Repeat the above process for another pair of Media records, until all
duplicates are merged.
When you think all completed, go and check the Media tabs of Individual

When all complete, run the Check for Unlinked Media plugin, to delete the
redundant photo copies.
Regarding you second question, after the image edit, ensure it gets
1) Displaying another image in same Media tab and return to edited image.
2) Use the Toggle Picture/Thumbnail View.
3) Switch to another tab and return to Media tab.
Closing and reopening FH is just an extreme method.
