Although not actually on the subject of this thread, I thought members
thinking of buying a new machine would be interested in the following.
My wife bought a new windows 10 laptop from Dell, recently. Each time
she started to use it it gave a warning that it was overheating, so she
went through the usual diagnostics tools provided. Nothing found, so she
rang Dell Support, who were helpful and very patient because she is even
less clued up than me, but does not like to take advice. Eventually they
said they could find no fault and asked where she used the machine. "On
my lap" my wife replied. "Ah, that is probably the answer. You should
not put a laptop on your lap". This was greeted with hysterical
laughter. Once she had calmed down, she found a reasonably-priced
cooling tray on which to rest the laptop, and the problem is resolved.
What price continuous improvement?
