Even though you haven't found them so far, that does not necessarily mean that
they are definitely not there :-)
I was looking for some of my Ridout family, and eventually came across them
transcribed as 'Redondo' and yet the enumerator's handwriting was
My preference would be for the search page to show the presence of a flag and
let the user decide if another search should be made. A flag which
automatically removes the entry from a list to be searched again might just miss
that census record which wasn't seen before.
Also, each provider does their own indexing, so what might be invisible in one
might show up in another - and I have read elsewhere that Ancestry at least have
not transcribed some pages of data. You might just miss the moment when the
error is rectified.
