Don't forget you can customise the character of the loops to some
extent, to make them less obtrusive.
In Diagram Options, when 'Check for duplicates' is ticked, click on the
small Options box immediately to its right. This allows you to link
family groups instead of separate individuals (reducing the number of
loops) and to choose the width, depth and colour of the loops among
other things. There isn't an option for a dashed line but by reducing
the width of the loops and selecting a white colour fill you can obtain
a fairly neutral effect.

Again personal opinion but I think a dashed line joining the duplicates
would be more pleasing to the eye and not so much, "in your face" as a loop,
that's unless of course the duplication can be avoided altogether.
