You no doubt know that source records can be linked to as many images as you
like. You may not be aware that you can also link images directly to source
citations if you want to. You can't do this in the Property Dialog's source
pane (or in the Multimedia window), but you can do it in the Records Window,
or in the All tab of the Property Dialog. You do this as follows:
(a) Start by creating a Multimedia record for the source image that you want
to link to, by clicking on 'Pictures...' on the Insert menu. As always, I
strongly recommend that you leave the picture on your hard disk, so that the
new record just contains a link to the picture and doesn't actually embed it
in the file.
(b) Find the record containing the source citation in the Records Window.
Expand it and locate the 'Source' field that represents the source citation
you want. You can double-click on the record name to fully expand all its
branches if the source citation is hard to find. Source citations have the
word 'Source' as label on the LHS.
(c) Right-click on the word 'Source'. A 'context' menu appears. Click
'Add Multimedia Object' and then 'Add Link to Existing Multimedia Object
Record'. Select the desired picture.
If you later want to view this picture, expand the record in the Records
Window. Expand the Source citation. Find the link to the Multimedia
object. Select it and click on the Multimedia Window button the toolbar
(supposed to look like a camera) to view the picture.
I am considering make this a simpler process, available from the Source pane
of the Property Dialog. Would that be something that people would like?
