Thank you again! Here in Canada I don’t have the access to all the resources and the brick walls don’t seem to come down at all. You have been most helpful and if there is anything that I can possibly do for you let me know. I was in your area in 2007 for 6 weeks but did not have the information to look in that area. I was in Ipswich to see a great uncle 3 times removed who was 94 at the time, however since passed away. I spent most of my time north east of Essex Harwich, Colechester, Brightlingsea etc. Beautiful country and would like to come back again. You have a great resource and I hope that people really do appreciate what you do for us.
Thank you so much for all the information that you have found. I have the children as Robert Potter, Sarah Ann Potter, Elizabeth Potter, Rebecca Potter, and John Potter. Also in the first message I missed putting in Robert Potter was my 2 Great Grand Parents. The Grand daughter that is living with them could it be Evelyn Muir Weet as this was my grandmother and I know that she did live with them for some time as her mother Sarah Ann Weet was a cook and lived in Hanover Square, Westminster. Her father was a butler also in London. Again thank you so much for all the information it will fill in a lot of holes that I still had.
I may have found a few notes for you.
In 1861 Robert was living at Green Cottage in Aldham, which is a small
village next to the market town of Hadleigh.
He is age 46 and listed as an Ag Lab, living with wife Ann and children
Sarah 21 and John 19, he is listed as born in Hadleigh and his wife and
children are listed as born in Aldham.
They have a lodger John Bradbrook.
Unfortunately the original copy is not easy to read.
Also listed as living at Green Cottage is William Bradbrook and his family -
also, Robert Bradbrook and his family too.
I have found a marriage record for Robert Potter and Ann Steed 4th May 1838
His second marriage was to Rebecca Bradbrook on the 27th November 1869
Both marriages were at St Mary's parish church in Aldham
In 1881 I see that Robert and Rebecca are living at Cosford Bridge Farm,
which is just outside Hadleigh near the hamlet of Bridge Street.
He is listed as being 63 with no occupation and Rebecca is aged 56. They
have a granddaughter age 7 living with them, birthplace Hammersmith in
London - however, the writing is so poor I could not make out the
g-daughter's names at all.
Sadly in the 1901 census Robert is living in the Cosford Union Workhouse,
listed as a pauper and a widower. (http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Cosford/)
His death is registered in Cosford in the January Q of 1902, most likely
Semer (where the workhouse was), his age is given as 87 years (this is Vol
4a page 550)
This is the only one I was able to find with the Cosford district references
Best regards, Pat ...
