Ellen & Eleanor may well be the same person. I have an Eleanor ancestor
who was sometimes known as Ellen & I have proof that she was one & the same.

Subject: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Waltham, Coates, Hornsey in North
I finally took the trip 'across the pond' and I found all sorts of
genealogical information in the parish register for North Newbald,
I've known for years that my 3rd great grandfather Jonathan Waltham was
born in England circa 1823, but I had 3 different possible locations. I
also knew his parents were Jonathan Waltham and Sarah Coates Waltham. I
recently at the LDS genealogy library in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA for 6
days of research when I decided to finally investigate his ancestry.
Boy did I strike it rich! I found the Bishop's transcripts for North
Newbald from 1601 - 1864, and my Jonathan Waltham, most of his siblings,
parents, and others who married Walthams and Coates are in the register.
Now that I have completed the analysis of all the data I collected
that register, I have come across a dilemma that I'd like to get your
opinions about. Here is the story:
I found a family unit made up of John and ELEANOR Coates. They had
children in 1810, 1812, 1822, and 1827. I thought it was odd that there
a 10 year break between 1812 and 1822 when no children were born to this
Then I found another family unit made up of John and ELLEN Coates.
had children in 1814, 1816, and 1819.
I didn't find marriage records for either of these couples in this
parish. I realize the couple(s) may have married in a nearby town, so on
next trip to Salt Lake City I will expand my search to nearby parishes for
In the meantime, my question is, do you think the two couples might be
one in the same and the wife's name was recorded differently for the 1814,
1816, and 1819 births?
Thank You in advance for your thoughts and opinions.
