PRO in London was the old name for Public Record Office. Things have
moved on since and it is now called TNA or The National Archives and it
is based at Kew. See

_rlaxton(a)rogers.com_ (mailto:rlaxton@rogers.com) , could you tell
me
more
about the Pro. in London? I don't know what that means or how to
access
it.
I'd love to know how to find those records online like you
mentioned.
You
seem to have found an enormous amount of info!
Many thanks,

I am not sure if this is off topic or relevant, but I did get my 3Xs
Great Grandfather Charles Dixon's Muster Rolls and discharge cert.
Payroll
records and enlistment details from the Pro. in London. He joined
the
Royal
Artillery in Sheffield in 1807 and served until 1816, when he was
invalided
out on a pension of 6d. per Diem, after being wounded by the
falling of
a
Gun (Artillery Canon) on his way to the Battle of Waterloo. I was
also
lucky
enough, to find his first 4 children's birth records in Canada...He
served
with the Royal Artillery from the time he was enlisted until he was
sent to
Belgium in early 1815...His wife accompanied him from England to
Canada.
She
stayed with him, except for a short sojourn back to England with her
eldest
two sons after her daughter died a week after birth in Quebec
Canada. I
also
have the record of the ship they returned home on from Belgium and the
Officers he served under...
. The Muster Rolls detail his Company in Canada and in Belgium. I
have to add that he was not an officer, but an Artilleryman, later a Non
Com. The records are available online...I also obtained the complete
records
for my uncle Arthur Dixon who died in 1914 in France...He served in the
York
& Lancs Reg. as a Drummer. He is buried in Farnce. his brother's
records
perished in the fire from German bombing in WW11. Arthur's
papers, show
fire
danage, but they managed to save them...by the way, if anyone can help
with
a previous request re the Johnsons in Hull, I would very much
appreciate
any
info, you may have, no matter how slim. Kindest regards, Josephine M.
Laxton. Ontario, Canada. p.s. I also have earlier records for another
Dixon
who enlisted in the late 1700's, and yet another for a Dixon
cousin who
was
injured while serving in an Artillery Unit as a Militia in
Sheffield,
circa
1804 becoming a Chelsea Pensioner...so worth a look in the Pro,
even
online...
