There have been some excellent responses to this thread since I set it
running, and good to get the List more active again.
I was hoping that a reader may have tried to access local militia records in
Hull and/or Beverley with news to report back to us about what they may
contain. The book of 1965 sets out what happened. We need to find people
who served, as far as possible. Unfortunately being on the other side of
the globe I can't help, something I would dearly like to be able to do.
While I am writing, I can report a response that I have had from TNA in Kew.
There is a series within their division of War Office records of auxiliary
services, within which WO96 consists of militia attestation papers 1886-1905
for the 15th Foot (East Yorkshire). A summary is at
