Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The current hot topic on the continental genealogical forums is the regulation the European Parliament is pushing on personal data, which is being strongly opposed by genealogists and archivists. There is even has a petition ongoing whose aim is to “adjourn the adoption of the regulation about personal data”: https://www.change.org/petitions/the-european-parliament-adjourn-the-adop...
A look at the countries where the petition has been relayed and the country of origin of the latest signatories suggests that Great Britain is not aware of the proposed regulation. I thought it might be interesting to have your views on it.
